Left Eye Twitching
Do you experience a sporadic twitch in your left eye, and only your left eye? Relax. You merely have Myokymia, or episodic twitching that involves the left eye. Myokymia is a spasm that causes twitching in the eyelid muscles. Myokymia usually only involves one side only. Even though you may be aware of it every time it happens, others may not see anything moving.
Because Myokymia usually only causes spasms in the eyelids of one eye, this condition is also known as a “hemifacial spam.” This is not a dangerous or serious condition. For most people with this minor, but irritating condition, simple reassurance is all that is necessary. If your Myokymia becomes a big problem be sure to see your ophthalmologist. There are some medications that can help, but again only a rarely is any treatment required.
Does your eye twitch? You may not have noticed, but I bet it was your left eye twitching. Some people call this an eye muscle twitch, an eye tick, eyelid twitch, eye spasm, eyelid spasm or many other terms. Doctors may use these terms too, but there is a scientific term too, it's called Blepharospasm.
Blepharospasm is a term used by doctors when a person had an abnormal blinking or involuntary eye twitching around the eyes or eyelids. This happens when the muscles surrounding the eye lids contract without trying to control them. A longer term for the same issue is Benign Essential Blepharospasm, or BEB for short.
